Resources for Resistance
Liberty City Arts is committed to creating art and speaking out in response to the dismantling of fundamental human rights and civil liberties.
Through recent actions and proposed policies, the Executive Branch of our government has expressed a clear intent to dismantle one of our most valued constitutional rights, the Freedom of Speech. Incidents such as the recent takeover of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts and the restriction of grant funding for the National Endowment for the Arts are a deliberate attempt to restrict the art we are permitted to create and how artists are able to express themselves. The arts have a direct impact on our society, and these actions are proof that our political leaders are aware and afraid of this impact.
Our goal at Liberty City Arts is to support local artists in making art that they believe in. To make art that speaks to our humanity in all of its joy and pain. To make queer art loudly and proudly. To make art that uplifts the voices of others. To make art that reminds us how beautiful the world can be.
By showing up as audience members, we demonstrate our values. If art and music matter to you like they do to us, continuing to watch and listen is the first step in ensuring that they have a place in our society.
Thank you for supporting local musicians in your community!
