Opera is a Drag Application
Part of the Philly Pride Arts Festival
What: Opera is a Drag
Where: Franky Bradleys B. West
When: June 25th @ 6:00pm (7pm performance)
Show Overview: Opera is a Drag celebrates the history and intertwined relationship between drag artistry and opera. Seemingly “low” and “high” art, drag has early roots in one of the western world’s oldest art forms.
Seeking: 4-5 opera/drag crossover artists to perform solo numbers (self-conceived) as well as LCA crafted ensemble numbers.
Artist compensation: $300+tips
Rehearsals: 2 group rehearsals (2 hours) & Dress Rehearsal (TBD Tuesday, June, 23) to be scheduled based upon the availability of performers
* Current Concept is modeled after an episode of Drag Race. Solo Acts will be introductions to the “Work Room” where you introduce yourself and we have cutaways to confessional type shots. There will be some kind of mini-challenge that will include improv. Second individual act will be a performance of a composer, famous singer, or style in drag as part of the Maxi Challenge. Depending on the chosen acts we may be able to work them into some kind of group number.
